Ego, let it go

Ego.
It says…
“I am right.”
“I want it my way.”
“Look at me.”

It’s the enemy of humility.
It’s the opposite of what we’re called to be…
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3, NIV)

But, sometimes it can be hard to be humble.
But, why?

The world cheers for individual achievement.
It exalts the “I.”
And ego embraces that praise.
It revels in it.

But, we’re not called to live like the world.
We’re called to live like Jesus, so let’s live like Jesus, and live out humility.

What does humility look like?
It celebrates the successes of others.
It knows that someone else’s gain is not your loss.
It knows that God has plenty in store for you.
It doesn’t self-justify, it acknowledges being wrong.
It’s more interested in learning, and growing, than fighting to be “right”.
It doesn’t rush to speak; it wants to listen.
It’s respectful of others’ opinions, even in disagreement.
It knows God is the giver of abilities.
It reflects praise back to God.
It offers help, when needed.
It’s God-dependent.
It’s thankful.

That’s a life filled with humility.
That’s a blessed life.

So, my encouragement to you today…
Let go of your ego.
Be humble.

God’s favor will fall on you…
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (James 4:6, NIV)

God’s favor is good.
Get it.
