Keep in mind the motive

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
-Galatians 1:10, NIV

Often, our motives may not be apparent to us.
And often, we may not even care to look at them.

We just push forward, head down, toward whatever we have in our sights.

But our motive, the “why” behind our actions, affects our peace, our happiness, our fulfillment.

It also affects our relationship with God and others.

When we act from artificial motives—like seeking approval from others, craving recognition, or fearing judgment—we often find ourselves overcommitted, stressed, and unfulfilled.

And chasing the approval of anyone, or trying to mold their opinion, is a moving target.
It’s a hollow pursuit, that will never satisfy.

It’s not fruitful.
It’s not God-centered.

It serves our ego.
It serves to be in control.
It’s prideful.

But, we’re all human, and it happens to us all.

So, how do we deal with it?
Recognize it.

Ask yourself…
Is other people’s opinion of me at the center of this decision?
Am I doing this just to feed my ego?
Or, protect my ego?

That simple step, will make a big difference.
That realization will impact the decisions your make.

So, I encourage you…
Keep in mind the motive.

You’re loved,
Steinar
